About Murmur

Murmur is an end-to-end encrypted chat room with no data retention — your messages, password, and keys are never stored, and nothing in your browser survives closing the tab. The server only ever holds encrypted data it cannot read. Set a password and share the one-click invite link (the password rides in the link's # fragment, never sent to the server), or share the room link and the password on separate channels. Each room self-destructs after a period of inactivity you choose.

Each person gets an automatic, anonymous key (kept in your URL, never shared). Messages are tagged with a short fingerprint of that key — a pseudonym, not a chosen name — and you can edit and delete only your own; the server verifies the signature and refuses anyone else. Don't paste the address bar by hand — it holds your key; use the Copy buttons, which never include it.
